Born in Mount Maunganui and designed by surfers for surfers, Mount Longboards creates gear that captures the carefree, sun-soaked feeling of summer so you can wear it all year round.
Locally grown and shaped by surf culture, our pieces aren’t mass-produced or generic. They’re made in small runs with original designs inspired by the coast we call home. Built with quality that lasts and a style that feels like the Mount.
We exist to connect locals and travellers alike to this place. And to that feeling of summer that never really leaves.
Back in the 80s we borrowed the old record player and placed it in the back of the shop. We had only a few albums back then and Fleetwood Mac was the favourite. We made our own surf wax and sold it in our store. Our first print “The Surf Shop” is the original store with our station wagon parked outside. The print features boards on top ready for repair.
The passion for creating high quality surf goods continued over to Mount Maunganui, a place where our passion for surfing and creativity merged seamlessly. Inspired by the unique landscape and the incredible surf community, we founded Mount Longboards.
Driven by our commitment to quality and authenticity, we soon expanded our reach by launching an online store. This platform allowed us to share our passion with those worldwide, offering handcrafted, screen-printed tees. Each design we create is our own and tells a story, celebrating the spirit of adventure and individuality that defines our brand.
As we grew, we listened to customer feedback and realised there was demand for our own store, so our retail journey began! We opened our first store in Mount Maunganui in 2022. Inspired by vintage aesthetics and the surfing community, we undertook a mission to thoughtfully create a curated and wide range of products and make them available to shoppers in our Mount Maunganui store. Our aim was to offer a range that resonates with both locals and visitors alike, reflecting the unique charm and lifestyle of Mount Maunganui.
In 2023, we moved into a fresh new store, which is our current location. Situated on the main street of Mount Maunganui, our new store allowed us to improve our customer experience and better showcase our products.
